Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large apples, peeled and diced
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2/3 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Oil for frying or baking
- Powdered sugar (optional, for dusting)
Instructions
- Peel and dice the apples into small, bite-sized pieces. Toss with 1 tsp cinnamon and 1 tbsp sugar. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, remaining sugar, baking powder, salt, and vanilla.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the egg and milk until smooth. Gradually add to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined to form a thick but pourable batter.
- Fold the apple pieces into the batter.
- For frying: Heat oil over medium heat in a deep skillet. Drop spoonfuls of batter into hot oil, frying 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown. For baking: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Arrange spoonfuls on a parchment-lined baking sheet, spray lightly with cooking spray, bake 12-15 minutes until golden.
- Optional: Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with caramel sauce. Serve warm with your favorite dip or ice cream.
Notes
- Use fresh, firm apples for the best texture.
- Do not overcrowd the pan when frying to ensure even cooking and crispiness.
- For extra flavor, add chopped nuts or a dash of nutmeg to the batter.
