Ingredients
Scale
- 1.5 lbs ground beef
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup sour cream
- 8 oz egg noodles
- Salt and black pepper
- Fresh thyme or parsley
Instructions
- Heat a tablespoon of oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook slowly, stirring occasionally, until golden brown and caramelized, about 15-20 minutes.
- In the same skillet, add ground beef and minced garlic. Cook until browned, about 8 minutes. Season with salt and black pepper. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Add caramelized onions back into skillet with beef. Pour in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer for 5 minutes.
- Cook egg noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). In a large mixing bowl, combine cooked noodles with beef and onion mixture. Stir in sour cream if desired and transfer to a greased baking dish.
- Sprinkle shredded mozzarella evenly over the top. Bake for 20-25 minutes until bubbly and golden. Broil for an additional 2-3 minutes for a crispy topping.
Notes
- Caramelizing onions slowly enhances their sweetness and flavor.
- You can substitute mozzarella with Swiss or provolone cheeses for different tastes.
- Add sautéed mushrooms, bell peppers, or other vegetables for extra texture.
- For a low-carb version, replace pasta with cauliflower rice.
