Description

Frito Taco Pie is a crispy, flavorful, and easy-to-make taco dinner featuring seasoned ground beef, crunchy Fritos chips, and melted cheese. Perfect for family dinners, this layered casserole combines the bold flavors of tacos with a satisfying crunch for a delicious, quick meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 can of diced tomatoes with green chilies
  • 2 cups crushed Fritos corn chips
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • Optional toppings: sliced jalapeños, chopped cilantro, sliced olives

Instructions

  1. Start by heating 1 tablespoon of oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onions and cook until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  2. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  3. Stir in taco seasoning and water, then cook for another 5 minutes until thickened.
  4. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Spread a layer of crushed Fritos in a greased 9-inch pie dish or baking dish.
  5. Top with cooked ground beef mixture, then sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese.
  6. Add diced tomatoes with green chilies over the cheese, then finish with another layer of Fritos.
  7. Bake for 15-20 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Serve hot, garnished with shredded lettuce, sour cream, and optional toppings like jalapeños or cilantro.

Notes

  • For a healthier version, use lean ground beef or turkey.
  • You can prepare the filling ahead of time and assemble just before baking.
