Description
Holy moly! I made this Swedish Meatball Pasta Bake for a get-together, and it vanished in minutes. This hearty, cheesy casserole combines tender Swedish meatballs with creamy pasta, baked to perfection. Perfect for impressing guests or enjoying a comforting family dinner.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef or beef and pork mix
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup bread crumbs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tsp allspice or nutmeg
- 8 oz (225g) cooked pasta (penne or rotini)
- 1 cup shredded cheddar or mozzarella cheese
- 2 cups creamy béchamel sauce or heavy cream
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
- Optional: mushroom slices
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Combine ground beef, onion, bread crumbs, milk, egg, salt, pepper, and spices in a large bowl and mix well.
- Shape mixture into small meatballs about 1-inch in diameter. Sauté in a skillet until browned and cooked through, 8-10 minutes, or bake directly in the oven.
- Cook pasta until al dente. In a large baking dish, combine cooked pasta, meatballs, and creamy sauce. Mix gently to coat evenly.
- Sprinkle shredded cheese on top. Bake for 20-25 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
- Garnish with fresh parsley. Serve hot with side salad or garlic bread.
Notes
- For vegetarian version, substitute meat with plant-based alternatives or lentils.
- You can use any short pasta like penne, rotini, or fusilli.
- For extra flavor, add herbs like dill or chives on top before serving.
