  • 1.5 lbs ground beef (preferably 80/20 for tenderness)
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup marinara sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (for topping)
  • Additional marinara sauce for glazing

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan, basil, garlic, onion, eggs, marinara sauce, oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until well combined.
  2. Transfer the mixture into a greased loaf pan or shape it into a loaf on a baking sheet. Spread additional marinara sauce over the top.
  3. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 45-55 minutes, until internal temperature reaches 160°F.
  4. Remove from oven 5 minutes before done, sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese over the top, and return to oven until cheese melts and bubbles.

Notes

  • Rest the meatloaf for 10 minutes before slicing to allow juices to redistribute.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • For longer storage, freeze slices wrapped tightly in foil or plastic wrap. Reheat in oven or microwave.
