- 1.5 lbs ground beef (preferably 80/20 for tenderness)
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup marinara sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (for topping)
- Additional marinara sauce for glazing
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan, basil, garlic, onion, eggs, marinara sauce, oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until well combined.
- Transfer the mixture into a greased loaf pan or shape it into a loaf on a baking sheet. Spread additional marinara sauce over the top.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 45-55 minutes, until internal temperature reaches 160°F.
- Remove from oven 5 minutes before done, sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese over the top, and return to oven until cheese melts and bubbles.
Notes
- Rest the meatloaf for 10 minutes before slicing to allow juices to redistribute.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- For longer storage, freeze slices wrapped tightly in foil or plastic wrap. Reheat in oven or microwave.
