Description

Dive into the savory world of Steak & French Onion Bruschetta Magic! This tantalizing appetizer features juicy steak, rich caramelized onions, and melted Gruyère cheese atop crispy baguette slices. Perfect for gatherings or as a gourmet snack, each bite is a flavorful delight that will impress anyone.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb of flank steak or sirloin, grilled
  • 4 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 12 slices of French baguette
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
  • Fresh thyme for garnish
  • Balsamic glaze (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a skillet over medium heat, add olive oil and butter. Once hot, add the thinly sliced onions, salt, and pepper. Cook slowly, stirring occasionally, until the onions are deeply caramelized, about 25-30 minutes.
  2. While the onions caramelize, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the French baguette slices on a baking sheet and toast them in the oven for about 5-7 minutes, until they are golden and crisp.
  3. Meanwhile, grill your steak to your desired doneness (about 4-5 minutes per side for medium-rare). Once done, remove from the grill and allow it to rest for about 10 minutes. Slice against the grain into thin strips.
  4. To assemble your Steak & French Onion Bruschetta, place a generous scoop of caramelized onions on each toasted baguette slice, followed by a few pieces of grilled steak. Top with a sprinkle of Gruyère cheese and fresh thyme. Drizzle with balsamic glaze if desired.

Notes

  • Store leftover components separately. Place the bruschetta in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 2 days.
  • You can caramelize the onions up to two days in advance and store them in the refrigerator until you’re ready to assemble the bruschetta.
  • If Gruyère cheese is unavailable, Swiss cheese or provolone can be used as substitutes.
