It’s an ideal addition to your holiday menu, offering a satisfying blend of sweet, spicy, and crunchy elements that everyone will love.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large sweet potatoes, peeled and sliced
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
  • 1 cup quick oats
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch casserole dish.
  2. Peel and slice the sweet potatoes into 1/4-inch rounds. Boil or steam until tender, about 10-15 minutes. Drain and set aside to cool slightly.
  3. Layer the cooked sweet potatoes evenly in the prepared casserole dish.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine oats, chopped nuts, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Stir in melted butter and honey or maple syrup until coarse crumbs form.
  5. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the sweet potatoes.
  6. Bake uncovered for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and crispy. For added crunch, broil for 2-3 minutes if desired.
  7. Serve warm, optionally with whipped cream or caramel for extra indulgence, alongside other Thanksgiving dishes.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, add a splash of vanilla or bourbon to the topping mixture.
  • You can substitute walnuts with pecans or other nuts of your choice.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven or microwave.
